Week 76

Hey family,

Nicholas didn't find me yet and he is such an excuse giver that he is busy. Sending an email doesn't take more than an hour unless he doesn't know how to use computer which I dont think he has any problem with that. Well, good luck on applying to Provo then. Haha.

It would be such a waste if Pres Teh doesn't make a clerk. Do you know that the 3 branch presidents in Miri asked me for help in using the church software because I am the only one that really know how to use it. Not trying to boast but I used to be a branch clerk in Sibu when I served there and that's where I learned it.

I am better each day but hasn't fully recovered yet. Funny story, one of the member was asking me, "Elder Tan, are you lacking of protein? Come to my house tonight, I will feed you tonight" It was really funny!!

I was on my way back from Singapore to Miri on Valentine's Day and I was sleeping on the whole flight because it was just so tiring and I wasn't feeling really well. Ohmygosh! I am soooo sick of travelling on the plane!

Speaking of dad's birthday, it's his birthday tomorrow! Happy Birthday Dad!! Have a blast!

I wish I could spend more time writing but I am running out of time today because we went to Niah Cave this morning and barely got to the internet place and need to rush back to change and to get ready for the next appointment. Anyway, updates for this last week was that, I finally am able to get someone to speak in the missionary moment in the sacrament. Her name is Sister Gloria and she is so good in sharing her experience encouraging the members to follow the missionaries out to teach. The spirit of missionary in this branch is getting stronger and stronger and every lesson that we had with less actives or investigators, there is always a member there to explain or to fellowship them. Like it's basically we are guiding these members to do it and they are really getting there.

And I just started something in the last last priesthood class asking members of the less actives that they know and each of them named someone that they know. So we started taking each one of them to go do home teaching with us. I know according to some of the leaders, the priesthood holder felt discouraged because they sometimes visited the family to do home teaching, when they knock on the house, the family pretended that nobody is in the house. This kind of thing doesn't really affect the missionaries, we got so used to it. We just have to take the bullet for them and then they could fellowship and home teach them. So far it went really well. One of the less actives came back when we did home teaching.

You know the find my lost sheep program, it get such a huge attention in the Miri District and I am still in the midst of updating everything. A lot of cool miracles happen like missionaries are able to know more of their less actives, know more of their area, get new investigators, reactive less actives and more. I am so impress with how everyone is putting 50% of their time in reactivating. This program also help each of the members to find some time home teach these less actives.

We just got a new referrals family from a less active. See! Zero knocking in Miri and we constantly have people
to teach because we are working with the less actives and the members. His name is Kenny and he came to church yesterday and we meet them later after the church. His question was, is it true that in this church we couldn't drink coffee and tea? I was like yeah. And he was like, alright cox I don't take any of those. Is it true that in this church, we don't drink alcohol and smokes? I was like yeah! He was like, I don't drink much alcohol but I do smoke and I think I am able to lessen smoking. And then one of our member was like bearing his testimony on Word of Wisdom. What a perfect moment! That's why you always have members in a lesson.

My way of doing missionary has really change a lot but it will change even more after the next transfer, to better of course. I am excited for the work in Miri because I really do believe that if we do a little bit more, it would really make a huge difference. Compare to every of my area, for instance in Sibu, people would just ask me, what church are you from? I would be like The Church of Jesus Christ(of course in Malay) and then they would be like, is it Roman Catholic, Methodist, SIB and so on. But here in Miri, people know The Church of Jesus Christ and they know where our church is when we say The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

I am so in love with the members in Miri and they kept offering me to stay in Miri by getting me a wife. Haha. I wish I could but I just couldn't. There is a lot of opportunity in Miri because they have oil here and normally people get paid a lot when they work with oil. No kidding.

We went to Niah Cave today like I said and the driver took us to one of the biggest house in Miri!! No joking! There is flyover in this huge house. He is the owner of Imperial Shopping Mall, Imperial Hotel in Miri and moree. His kitchen costs RM1.8 million!! It is definitely a lot fancier than the castle in KL. Hahahaha! xD

Anyway, I miss home and I can't wait to come home for real. #Iamdead

Elder Tan

That is the house that has a flyover in it. Thats the best shot I can get. It was really nice from far angle.

This river has crocodile and we took a boat over it.

The boat guy say the crocodiles usually come out at night and sometimes you could see the boat floating on the river.

That's the missionaries from my zone that went. Not everyone went because some of them went before.

The first cave that we got to.

There is a small cave in that cave.

And there is a really small entrance

We also went and saw some long house

Play with one of the thing that they made

Just chilling

Pictures with the senior couple. They are really cool!

I will send more pictures next Monday
