Week 88

Elder Bodhaine is just an American that loves American foods more than anything else. He will be going home in July, a month before me.

Thank you! I am so excited about going back to BYUH. I am afraid that I am going to face culture shock again. I am going to get my passport replace tomorrow and I need RM300. Do you think any of you is willing enough to spare me that money by putting into my account? Elder Loke is admitted in BYUH as well. I will have to get my passport replaced and send them a copy of my passport to get the visa document. I think I might need to pass USD$500 international processing fees and USD$50 housing deposit. So much money I need to use. I am sorry for that.

Anyway, when things are coming to the end, things will also start going down plus I have to think about applying the US Visa thing. I talked to President Mains to get transferred out of Miri hopefully to serve in KL again or maybe Singapore because that is the only place that I could go back to US Embassy to get my US Visa. I don't know what he is gonna do but I'll just have to see in the next transfer which is next Monday. I am so excited that I am going back to Hawaii again but I am thinking of getting my general done first and I might even think if I want to transfer to Provo. I know that searching for jobs with a Provo Degree is going to be a lot easier than Hawaii. Or maybe not. I don't know. I will have to think think think and ponder first. It definitely takes a lot of effort when it involve your future.

Well, I guess I will have to start off with how a lot of our appointments got cancelled in the past weeks. I wasn't that angry or frustrated because it just won't yield any differences. We spend a lot of times contacting and visiting some of the less actives that are still willing to meet.

And this is also the time of the year where a lot of Ibans will either go back to their kampong to celebrate Gawaii or just drink and be merry and drunk. Missionary work suffers a lot every time when it approaches Gawaii season because not a whole lot people are able to meet and a lot of people are just gone. Gawaii festival will start end of May and it is starting to affect us a little bit.

My survey contacting project was just so ... I don't know. We found a couple of people from there and like I said, the acceptance rates are a lot higher. We recently schedule a return appointment with a girl called Nisha. She is 14 years old and she is really smart. We met her with her parents. We went into her house and I saw this Christ picture card sticked on the wall and I am pretty sure that the Christ's picture is from our church so I took a close look on it and it has the church website on it. So I started asking about it and she said she got it years ago from her friend in the school. Who would have expect someone who has the church card and then met the missionaries years later. I definitely do not know what is happening but I do know that God is leading us to this house.

A lot of people just dont like calling me Elder Tan. They would always call me Tan. "Oh Tan" , "Ah Tan". My landlord would always call me Tan. One of the less actives daughters would always call me Oh Tan and they are muslim. They cooked me Nasi Lemak because I asked for it. That is so nice of them. I haven't really had Nasi Lemak in a while and I definitely love it. And people just treat me as if I am part of their family. It is the culture here where they will serve you drink. There are several times where they will have a jug full of some sort of juice and glasses and they would put it on the floor and tell me to serve everyone. It's just so touching when you are treated as their family.

Funny part as I was looking on the form to fill up for passport renewal. I realized I always have dad or mom to sign for me because I am under age but now that I saw that it says that if you are below 18 years old, your dad or mom will have to sign it. And I was thinking that I am already 21 years old and I no longer need any signature from either of my mom or dad anymore. Which mean that time passes so fast that I don't even know that I am actually getting older and matuuureeee. Haha

I gotta go! Take care mom, dad and sisters! Know that challenges ahead you are an opportunities for us to learn and grow. I know each of you will be able to do good because you are all mature enough to know what to do.

Elder Tan

Be grateful for where you are staying because not a lot of people have a really comfortable house to stay in.

One cleaner in there was asking us for cigarette. Are you kidding me? Do we look like we smoke.

And he is planning to charge us RM5 for taking pictures so that he could use the money to buy his cigarette. I can't believe how a material thing is able to control one's life easily.

We have been sitting on the side walk for 30 minutes+ waiting for the member who later told us to go the other member's house directly.

This part of Malaysian still does have fresh and clean air to breathe.

Bro Steven is the one who has Muslims daughters.

This is the Nasi Lemak! They made me eat almost everything.

This is Bro Steven's awesome family!
