Week 82

Hey family,
I can't believe you guys went to Malacca without me! Alright, one of the Sundays, I might need to borrow a car to drive down to Malacca to visit the church there. I can't believe you guys didn't even go to Jonker Street, that is the best part of Malacca. True enough that the Klebang Coconut Shake is really famous and nice. I miss that really much. I still don't know what I want to do when I come back, maybe some suggestions and idea would help me. But I definitely want to go to Malacca on one of the Sundays.
You probably already know my plan this week that we are going to Singapore and then transfer next week. The zone has been doing really great because there is a huge increase of using the members in every missionary opportunity. I am pretty sure the zone will continue to do well. I am pretty ready to just step down and be given a new area and focus in my new area. Sound like I am ready to leave which might be true because a lot of the missionaries are predicting that I will be leaving because I have been in Miri for way too long. Even if I don't leave, I don't really mind but will continue to more great things in Miri.
I have found that family prayer is the key! We have been committing a lot of less actives families to have their own family prayer every night. My companion and I try to meet with each of the potential less actives twice a week and that is the only time that we could strengthen them and we won't be able to be there for them 24/7 but if they start doing family prayer, the spirit will be able to be there with them 24/7 to guide them which I believe it is true. I have done what I could for the past few months, which is to love them, be bold sometimes if I have to, chastise them sometimes if I have to. It is not effective if they do not act upon our message. By having a family prayer, they are acting upon our message.
One of the less active, Sister Paula who hasn't been to the church for 6 years came back to church and has been coming with his son, Maxwell who is not a member. Maxwell says he love church because he felt the deep feeling of peace and happiness in his life. And everytime we are there, Maxwell would always be like, "Elders, help me stop smoking and drinking." We were like, well, we have done this a lot of time and that is a really good intention but we are not gonna do that yet because we want to build your faith and lay a foundation for you before you are able to stop drinking and smoking because it is though Jesus Christ that you are able to overcome your addiction. Just like how if you do not have a strong leg,  you wont be able to play well in football.
Another problem is that one of the less actives that we want to bring back to church is addicted in some kind of dangerous substances. It is so scary how addictives substances can destroy our lives and put us in a deep misery.
Another happy occasion is Kenny has been decreasing the number of cigarettes he smokes. I am pretty sure he is ready for the baptism but the fellowshipping from branch isn't quite there yet which we are planning to work on more. I have seen countles of times how the gospel has bless and change life of countless of people and it strengthens me so much every time someone change. I am pretty sure each of you have felt how I have changed.
The challenge or maybe the invation for my family is to gather together every night to pray together as a family. I know that as you do so, the relationship as a family will come closer and you will come to appreciate God even more. Isn't that what you want? If it's yes, then do it. Don't procrastinate.
Do well! 3 months to go!
Elder Tan
