Week 74

Happy Chinese New Year family!

I forgotten to do that last week! It's really good to know that mom is doing missionary work as well. I've been trying so hard since the first day in Miri to get the branch excited to do missionary work. I have come to the conclusion that in order for a branch to grow, the branch needs to be excited and helpful in doing missionary work with the missionary. You could have the best missionary ever in your branch, but what if they leave and another not so best missionary came in, the work will go down. But if the branch continue to be excited, no matter what kind of missionaries that came in, the work will still continue to flow.

I have been trying to get members that followed us to teach to bear their testimony yesterday in the Fast and TestimonySunday. The purpose was to get every one on fire to do missionary work. It was so good especially when my branch president went up and bear testimony about his experience sharing gospel in his working place and emphasizing every members is a missionary. I was sitting on the back so excited when he said this. I guess another reason why he is now excited is because we borrow him a book from Clayton Christensen that talks about building a branch that God trusted.

Again, I know I say this a lot, I think members should start going out with missionaries to teach with them in order for the branch to grow. Reactivation and baptism increase if there is a member present in every lesson. Ever since I got into Miri, I never go to a lesson without a member because I know that a lesson would be a lot more effective and better with a member. I went with my branch president few days ago, I was talking for maybe 10 minutes and the investigators/less actives weren't talking much with me but when my branch president started talking, the investigators/less actives started conversing with my branch president. I am a pretty good teacher but I just dont understand these people as much as the members that stay here.

The past week was a little bit rough because a lot of the missionaries were sick. I was sick since Monday but getting better. I was so weak in the morning but when I get out of the house to see the members or people to teach, I am way too excited and filled with the energy from all these people that I love but when I came home, I am back to my dead mode. I know if I could teach someone today to help them strengthen their faith, that would really help a lot. This is my last 6 months of my mission, I giving all my in. I am not gonna relax but I will not overwork myself. Now I really felt how it's like to be a leader, you can never back down, retreat or surrender or else the whole team will fail.

The past week has also been a lot of coordinating with missionaries and district. We had meeting with our new senior couple! They are really good. This is their 3rd mission. They have a lot of good idea on finding new people. Then we have meeting with district leaders to make sure that our zone vision and zone focus is being implemented well in each of the district. Then we have meeting with district presidency which is a huge step to coordinate and to ocntinue to build the trust between the members and the missionaries. Remember the find the lost sheep program? It will be implemented in the whole district after a meeting with the district presidency!! Every members will help us in accomplishing in this marvelous work to locate the lost sheeps. It is indeed a marvelous work.

I have come to really firmly believe that this work will never fail because it is the work of the Lord but he couldn't achieve it without us being His faithful instruments.

Elder Tan

This is Bro Rungai. See the river behind us? He said that there is crocodiles in this river.

That grassy area behind there is usually where the crocodiles hang around. We are going to his house on Tuesday to help him move.

Bro Rungai's house is just like a zoo. I am holding a bird that I don't even know what it is.

I am holding a small chick that they rear.

Outside their house has some pretty good spot to take pictures.

I just love all these kids. See how adorable they are. Sometimes they could get so naughty like snatching my name tag. zzz

This is really funny. This is taken from my camera. Look at other picture taken from Elder Schuetz camera.

Preparing to go to one of the member's house around the airport area which is super super far away.

This is the picture that is taken by Elder Schuetz camera. Haha

Book of Mormon is now in Malay. Order one Kitab Mormon for free.

This is our zone activity last Monday. And I bought every one ice cream after the activity.

Sis  Trottier took this picture for me. She is a pretty good photographer I would say.
