Week 65

Hey family,

I am getting transferred to Miri this Thursday. I guess this is the end of my mission in West Malaysia and I don't think I will be back anytime until I am done with my mission. I am back to a Malay speaking area after I'd been serving in an English branch for 6 months. Time passes so fast and I can't believe I am leaving. I thought I will be staying in Melaka because I am training but I was wrong. Always expect the unexpected. Sigh. I couldn't express entirely how I felt especially when Pres Main called me to inform me that I will become a Zone Leader in Miri. I was completely speechless not because I am a Zone Leader but because I am leaving! I really couldn't speak after that and I just stood there silently drinking my water. I wish I wish I really could have stay in Melaka. I am definitely grateful that Elder Loke and Elder Teh were comforting me on the phone. And on the other hand, Elder Shorts and Elder Holbrook gave me a hug of comfort.

Remember how I found those family through these few kids? Parameswari and Puspalathn are one of the few people that we are teaching now. Parameswari couldn't walk very well without any helper and Puspalathn has problem memorizing and remembering things. I thought maybe I wouldn't put much focus on them because they won't be able to progress. But it proves me wrong and I definitely feel bad for assuming. I taught each of them how to pray. On the first lesson, Parameswari prayed for the first time. This is a prayer of a humble lady, "...God please help me to walk, I want to walk to show everyone that I can walk.." She is a very strong lady and that encourage to teach them even more. The next several appointment, Puspalathn prayed "..God I need help in memorizing thing and reading.." After that, I felt a deep love for each of them and wanting to help them to progress. They came to church yesterday. Parameswari had to climb up to the second floor and she couldn't walk very well but she is insist on doing it. She is definitely a very determined lady!

I really do not know what is going to happen because I am  the only one who could speak Malay among all these missionaries here and the new missionaries coming in definitely will not speak very good Malay. Sigh. I definitely know God has His own plan and I guess at this point I really need to listen to Beatrice's counsel in trusting and relying on the Lord.

Just for your information that Elder Teh brought back more than 20 less active members back to church. How did he do that? He did it with UNO! In this mission, if there is anything that would boost the mission work. We would always follow. I bought myself an UNO set and it help a lot in teaching. I would play with Parameswari and Puspalathn after a lesson and gave them a commitment to either pray or read. The next time when I come back, if they do not do what they are suppose to do, I will not play UNO but if they do, I will play UNO with them. I learn that we always need to reward someone to encourage them to do better.

I am planning a lot of stuff to do after my mission. I want to visit Melaka branch once a month after going back. I want to get into a law school and I want to get a Malaysian girlfriend. Hahaha. I am not distracted, I am planning my future. I actually bore my testimony last week in the New Missionary Training in KL.

"Looking back, I realized how much Heavenly Father had bless me and my family, before my mission, I used to not be able to handle problems that well especially when I am serving in West Malaysia now where a lot of missionaries told me that I would be homesick for seeing my family. I was surprised I wasn't even homesick because I know my purpose out here as a missionary and I am not done with my mission yet. I have learn to face problems and if there is a problem, I will be standing there, bring it on, I am ready for it."
A sister missionary came up to me and told me that she won't be able to take it if she sees her family and she will feel that she wants to go home. She told me that I am a strong missionary.

Don't worry about me. Heavenly Father is always guiding me and shaping me into a better person. AND! Happy Early Birthday sister!

Love,
