Week 38

Eddy's brother, Eder shared a story yesterday in the church and I really like the story. It is not a real story but a made up story. It is about a Theological Professor named Dr Christiansen who teaches about religion. And it is a mandatory subject that students must take and students find it super boring. The class consists of 35 students. And then there is one student named Stephen, he is the best student in the class with best result and so on. Dr Christiansen asked Stephen how many push up do you do a day and Stephen said he does 200 a day. Dr Christiansen asked if he can do 300. Stephen happily nodded and say he can do it. One day in the class, Dr Christiansen brought donuts and it was the final week. The students thought it was gonna be a huge party and they were all so excited and happy for that week. Stephen was called to the front and Dr Christiansen asked the first student, "Jen, do you want a donut?" When Jen said yes, Stephen was called to do 10 push up. And then second student was asked the same question and has agreed for 1 donut. Stephen was again call to do 10 push ups. Almost all the students took a donut and Stephen did 10 push up for each donut taken. When they look at Stephen's red face, they started to feel sorry, sympathy, sad and bad for him. So the next student refuse to take the donut because he doesnt want Stephen to do any push ups. But Stephen was still called to do 10 push ups. The student angrily asked the professor why does he still need to do 10 push ups even thought he did not eat the donut. The professor then said, even if you eat a donut or not, Stephen still need to 10 push ups. Stephen was willing and he didn't complain much. The students start to feel that it wasn't the the best week that they talked earlier. At that time, Stephen did more than 300 push ups. At that time, a student who was late came in and was asked if he wants a donut. He was told by the students not to take any donuts and as he was asked by the professor if he wants donut knowing nothing happen happily agreed for a donut. And Stephen has to do another 10 push ups again. The students were angry at him for not listening to them. At that time, students that passed by outside the class began noticing what happen and the professor invited each of the students to come in and partake of a donut. There were 5 students that accepted a donut. Imagine how many push ups that Stephen had done? More than 400 push ups. Jesus Christ had paid the price for each one of us to have eternal life. Whether or not we accept it, he had already paid the price. We can choose to partake of the donut or just to leave it there. Now this is my question, I have already partake of the donut. What about you guys? Ponder about it deeply.

Do not worry mom. You are definitely right when you say that I am being judgmental. I definitely will admit my fault but I have started to grow to being better. Instead of judging people, I do what I need to do as a missionary as agency is given to every person. I have learnt so much in this past 8 months. Every night, I knelt down to give thanks and show my gratitude to Heavenly Father. As I served with Elder Allen, 18 years old kid. I began to reflect on my past the way that I used to act when I was at that age. I know that I have change a lot by just comparing the past me and the present me. I have always remember to read my Patriarchal blessing to do what it ask of me to do. Humble is definitely one of the thing that I have been working for the past few months. I am a type of person that reflect on myself and always looking for opportunity to improve myself. I know what I am lacking of and I will try to mend that hole with something positive. Or else you wouldn't have seen me change so fast from a disobedience kid to a kinda obedient kid. LOL.

Few days ago on our way to an appointment, as usual, we would enter a bus or a mini bus. This mini bus was empty so I sat behind but front seat and slide open the window. As I sat there for 2 seconds, the window broke into maybe hundred or thousand pieces some landed on my right hand. It feels as if thousand of needles were poking on my whole right hand. No major injuries but I would say that I am very grateful that I did not lose my right hand. At that moment I was thinking how it was like when it were to be a car accident. It hurts a bit even though sharp glasses landed on my hand. But I would say it is gonna hurt a lot if it is a car accident. So, as I was pondering, I think of people that used to drive very fast back home. Please be careful because you do not want to lose your life or hurt yourself that way.

Sabah is so crazy in a good way. I love Sabah and the people here especially church members. Yesterday I jokingly talk to the members, if you were to find me a wife here in Kota Kinabalu, I would then move to Kota Kinabalu which will then add a number to priesthood holders. The branch counselor and the members said they will look for a chinese wife for me. Hahaha. I was joking lah kay. Dont take it too serious. It all happen because Elder Tadius will be finishing his mission next month. You know kan, before missionaries finish their mission, they will be interviewed by mission president encouraging them to find an eternal companion.

Never in my life have I ever seen Chinese speaking to Chinese in Malay. And it happen here in Sabah. I would say that Sabahans are really united. There is no barrier between races, and it all Malaysians. And I love it when Malaysians are united especially at this time.

Love,
Elder Tan
