Week 13

Yeah, I do wake up at 6.55am every morning unless I am super exhausted, I will be awake at 7.30am or maybe later. Elder Kong is from Sibu, Sarawak, he was serving in Singapore but was transferred to Tawau, Sabah. Sorry, my companion's name is Reid not Reed. xD And almost every meal that I cook, at least 2 instant noodles. I'd been eating instant noodles for 3 months and it still taste so good. I even try most of the instant noodles in the store already. But, don't worry. I probably gonna stop that pretty soon. I gonna learn and cook some Chinese foods. The other day, I was cooking fried rice and burgers for all of them. And the kitchen is always messy so I have to clean it up almost everyday.

Hmm. The reason I text/called while cycling is because I want to get things done now but no next time. I won't text/call while cycling again.

I am putting everything I have to make sure people come to church now. I started something called Operation Lost 'n' Found. Through this operation, I found 12 less active families which lead us to 6 new investigators and 3 people to be baptize soon. The past missionaries hasn't been doing any less active findings so I am gonna do something different since I was less active before. I would say I have a little experience on this. We would go to each less active members house to strengthen their faith and understand their concerns. We'd been doing this more than a week.

Yesterday was the most happiest day in my mission because throughout our efforts, church attendance jumped to 57 from 36. Almost all the seats were filled up. And especially this one less active that hasn't come to church ever since he got baptized was there as well. On Saturday, I told myself that I am not doing any teachings today unless there is a needs. I am going to cycle to each of the members house to remind them to come to church and I will continue to do that until I was transferred. So, I guess it makes a lot of changes then. And the story of how I manage to get Bro Gima back to the church spread around the church yesterday. In Bro Gima case, it's a little different. I got his boss's number and I called his boss to ask if it is possible to let Bro Gima to come to church. But before that, I kneel down and pray really hard hoping to get the courage to speak to the boss and the right word to speak to the boss. The boss told me that he would call Bro Gima to let him know. So on the second day which is Sunday morning, I called Bro Gima's number but his wife answered it. She told me that Bro Gima went to work already. I was really sad when I heard that but she continue with, but he will come back and go to church with us. I was shouting on the phone. WAHAHAHAHAAH!! Our sacrament meeting starts at 11.30am, and at that time, it's already 11.29am but Gima's family haven't show up so I decided to go wait at the lift. Then the lift door open, 9 family members walked out of the lift. I couldn't really express how happy I am but I did called the boss and express thankfulness and ask if it is possible, please let him come to church every Sunday if things are not busy on Sunday. The boss said he would try to arrange it. And also, I prayed to thank God for bringing Bro Gima back to the church after disappearing for a very long time. Then, I was called by the branch president to speak without any notice.

This is what I said on the stage, I am very happy that each of you come to church. Each of you are very special to me. Thank you for coming to church today. I promise you that today when you go home, you will feel different. I want to let you know, yesterday me and Elder Reid cycled to all the members house to remind them to church and I found it super helpful. From now on, we will do that. If you see us outside your house on Saturday, remember to come to church. I know there is a reason I am put in this branch. I will build this branch and I will find those who hasn't come to church and bring them back to the church. Next month, there will be a huge transfer, I do not know whether I will stay or not but I will continue to do what I can to bring each of you to church. Each night I reached home super exhausted and collapsed on the bed but I will not give up on any of you. I will continue to endure because I know if I endure, you will endure as well.

I just feel that my talking skills improved a lot. I do not feel scare anymore when I talk to strangers. Topics will just popped up on what to talked. And I definitely feel a lot closer to all of the members. I know what most people are thinking through their face expression. And I am kinda familiar with road in Sibu already.

So these are our 3 month visions;
5 more active priesthood holder
8 baptism
65 average church attendance
5 less active family active
1 family working to temple

I would love to listen new ideas on how to bring less active back to the church. Any ideas are welcome. Please feel free to email me and advice me on what to do.

Regards,
Elder Tan
